The place where Western allies intercepted communication from East German authorities and Soviet armies is today Teufelsberg, one of the best-known ‘lost places’ of Berlin. This abandoned NSA listening station, the epitome of surveillance and intrusion of privacy, offers the perfect space for Ron Miller’s geisha and ‘Fuck Fame’ motto. The Berlin-based artist collective is constantly exposed to surveillance through social media and so is shining a light on the blurry line between fame and surveillance. Their geisha is situated in the centre of the radio waves, directly beneath one of the four radomes. The artwork was made possible by the Berlin-based artist TOBO, who is well-known for his cartoon art figure Erik Rotheim and left a searing social and political commentary directly above the geisha in the form of his Berliner bear with oversized snout.
